Entry Title: Street Science - Making Science Fun

Street Science’s purpose is to make science fun, inspire a new generation of scientists, and show science can save individual lives, protect communities, and make Earth a more inhabitable place. Our programs are facilitated by fully trained and experienced science communicators. With either a science or education background, our team mix humour, exciting demonstrations and quality scientific explanations into an interactive science experience to be enjoyed by all ages.

Street Science embraced the uncertain times, using it as a catalyst for innovation and revolutionizing how science is taught in classrooms throughout Australia. Creating our digital ecosystem will see us scale nationally and globally. No longer limited by in person service delivery, our fully interactive, pre-recorded classroom kit product, and virtual incursion options, ensures we’re not limited by geographic location or presenter availability.

With the challenges presented in 2020, we continued to innovate and create unique programs to educate young people including:

-Live Streamed Virtual Class Rooms: During COVID-19 school lockdown - live-streamed virtual classes reached more than 20,000 people from six different countries each week.
-New Website and E-Commerce Capabilities: communicates our message and services, and also gives parents and teachers the capacity to buy our resources.
-Classroom Kits: Teachers receive instant access to the accompanying digital lesson. Digital Lessons are accessed via our Street Science Digital Portal.
-Online Subscription based Virtual Classrooms: After the success of lived streamed virtual classrooms, we created affordable subscription based Virtual Classrooms.
-Virtual Incursions: For the schools forced to cancel incursions due to COVID-19, we created a virtual option, enabling us to be able to scale nationally and international.
-National Science Week Film: We create an option that meant we did not need to physically enter schools. A 45-minute documentary was made in partnership with Video Domain, Sea Life Mooloolaba and QUT. The film proved very popular with schools outside Brisbane, and helped differentiate our brand.
-School Holiday Program: We collaborated with other small businesses to deliver online, school holiday programs available Australia wide.
-2 Year Partnership with Urban: We formed an official two-year partnership with Urban Water to create a water cycle program for schools.

Business Awards: We won the 2019 Telstra Business award for Qld (small and succeeding category), finalists in 2020 Australian Small Business Champion Awards, won Brisbane Lord Mayor's HSBC adaptation award for innovation and adaptation and won three Stevie Awards (International Business of the Year - media and entertainment gold, plus People's Choice in and Women in Business - Education Hero of the Year - bronze)

After a successful tour to Malaysia 2019, we’ve partnered with Whyte House Education Group to online lessons and workshops to kids who were homeschooling during COVID lockdown

Worked with the Saigon Scientists in Vietnam to upskill their staff as the science curriculum is rolled out throughout the country.

Worked with the China Science Festival in Beijing to tour in 2021 and provided online content to upskill their staff and give them access to media to showcase to the general population who would normally have attended the festival.

Business growth

Despite COVID, we’ve experienced a 20% per annum growth trajectory, maintaining market share and revenue. We committed to protecting the jobs of our valued staff, investing in the local economy, even with 90% of traditional revenue streams nullified, we knew the best way we could commit to the Brisbane economy was to invest in employment. We recently advertised for three more full-time positions.
Implementation of our digital systems and online portals saw an invested $AU200K to small Brisbane businesses and contractors, during the COVID-19 pandemic.
